The Journey to Peace at Christmas
The Christmas season is a time for the world to be renewed. As the first snow falls, we see the world around us transforming into a winter wonderland. Decorations begin to appear, creating light even when the world seems to be full of darkness.
For some, Christmas is a tough time. Perhaps there is a loved one missing from the table, or an issue has arisen that seems to be hopeless and impossible.
It is easy to become discouraged during this time, when the world is supposed to be full of hope.
In this day and age, our society has placed a large amount of emphasis on the need to buy things. We are consumed by the idea that material items will help us feel fulfilled and happy. As I have discussed in previous blogs, this is certainly not the truth.
Distracting ourselves with meaningless products and things is simply not the answer. You are probably asking yourself, "So how do we find the answer?"
This is a very good question, and I'll be the first to admit that it does take time and patience to discover how to fully find hope and fulfillment when the world around us is speaking a totally different language.
I can tell you that by switching your focus from the gifts under the tree to the real meaning for the season will change your perspective, and most likely help you on the journey to finding the answer to question we are all trying to answer.
Whatever the holiday season means to you, is where you need to start. Decompress, and come back to the basics. It is important to maintain our mental health during the holiday season even more so than during ordinary times.
For me, I know that I will be baking Christmas cookies with my mom and singing Christmas songs with my girlfriends. My brother and I will be playing guitar together and laughing at how we were so excited for Christmas when we were children. My dad and I will be decorating my house and remembering all the years where I was the first to beg to get our decorations from the attic.
Lastly, I am most excited to celebrate what I believe about the reason for the season, and to share my experience with those who are willing to listen.
No one can answer that question for you. You will need to answer it for yourself, and I promise, the moment you begin to seek that answer you will begin on a journey where peace is undoubtedly at the end.
I will be continuing to share my insight throughout the rest of the Christmas season, so stay tuned for more of how I will be enjoying this holiday to the fullest.
Talk to you soon,
Anne
