3 Reasons Why Personal Days Are Important

Life is busy. There is always something that we can or should be doing. We can become so caught up in our to-do lists that we find ourselves in a position where we feel like drowning. I am guilty of this, as I tend to take on a lot of projects and responsibilities when I probably shouldn't.

In the midst of a crazy schedule, it is not only important but necessary to take at least a day to decompress and put yourself back together. Avoiding a breakdown is better than having everything fall apart due to overwhelming stresses.

Here are just a few reasons as to why I believe in the importance of taking a personal day.

1. They help us clear our minds.
Having time to take a step back and remember all the good that you are will help clear your head of anything that is troubling you.

2. They give us the necessary rest that we need.
Perhaps you have not been able to get the rest that you have needed in the past week or so. How can you be expected to keep moving forward and putting your best effort into your day? Rest time really is important for our ability to function.

3. The word personal is right in the title of the day!
That's right! It is all about taking care of things are personal. It may not be anyone's business but your own, but that is what makes it such a priority. No-one knows what is going on in your head, only you do. It is your responsibility to take the right actions so that your mental health is being taken into consideration.

I realize that it is not always possible to withdraw from everything that we need to do in the daily routine. However, planning out a time where you can relax with a good book or do something you enjoy will make a world of difference.

Take a few minutes to look at where such time would fit into your schedule, and if you are able to take off a whole day then go for it. Make sure that you make proper arrangements for your responsibilities, so then you don't feel bad about missing anything.

I have included a link here to an article that includes tips for how to bring self care back into your life, which I would recommend doing in your time off for your personal day.

Hopefully these reasons helped you see the importance of taking a day off, and why it is so important for your mental health and wellbeing.

Take care and talk to you all soon,
Anne
