3 Ways to Begin to Know Yourself
One of the first steps of learning how to achieve a happy and healthy lifestyle is to acknowledge who you are and what you want to accomplish. Being truly happy is a very personal thing, and the bottom line is that it starts and ends with you. How you treat yourself has a lot to do with the kind of outlook you have on life, and growing in this can help you find your path and purpose. Even though we are all on separate journeys, there are common techniques that can be used in order to aid you throughout your progress. Here are a few of my favorites, and I highly recommend you try out a couple of them just to get yourself started.
1. Before any other steps are taken, I suggest that you take some kind of personality quiz. I have linked a great one here for you to test out. Personality quizzes can help you put into words the kind of feelings, thoughts, or tendencies you may have. It is possible that this can give you some answers you may have been searching for, but most specifically it can give you a starting place for understanding yourself. Coming to terms with who you are can help you move through almost any difficult situation.
2. Another great way to learn about yourself is to take a few minutes to write down some of your strengths and weaknesses. By having a visual list to come back to, you will be able to know what areas you can improve on (your weaknesses) and what areas you can continue to grow and flourish in (your strengths). For example, say you have a tough time being punctual and want to improve how you keep track of your time. Being able to look back at your list and come to terms with this will imprint the idea of time in your mind. You can actively try to manage your time better, and start to feel better about yourself. On the other hand, if you have a strong ability to listen well to others, perhaps try out visiting a nursing home and talking to some of the residents. Reaching our full potential in our strengths can be a very rewarding experience.
3. Identifying your values can also help you begin to understand yourself a little further. Taking some time to think and write down the things that are important to you can help you realize what you need to focus your attention on. Finding core values to live your life by can give you a backbone to base your beliefs on, and this will help you in creating positive and healthy thoughts when going throughout your day.
These are just a few of my favorite ideas, but they certainly are not limited to this. I would love to hear any other ideas you may have for learning how to know yourself, so please leave a comment!
